A phenomenal coach! Matvey is knowledgeable, flexible, and an overall great person to learn from.
Knowledgeable: He's a walking chess engine in all phases of the game. He's able to analyze my games on the fly and tell me where I could have improved. He also comes prepared with opening theory so I can learn the most topical variations. His suggestions often mirror the top engine moves.
Flexible: He's able to tailor the lessons according to my needs from week to week. We typically start with a review of my games in the past week, followed by opening theory, middlegame strategies, or endgame practice, all depending on my preferences that week.
Fun: He's just a great guy to be around. There's never a dull moment and my 1-hour lesson flies by leaving me wanting more.

I have been taking weekly lessons with Matvey for the last 6 months, and they've been absolutely wonderful. He's extremely knowledgeable about chess, of course, and thinks amazingly quickly on his feet. But what stands out about Matvey is how much he cares about his students. His lessons feel very personal -- he helps me pick out an opening repertoire and selects exercises based on my weaknesses.
He adapts the lesson plan based my own suggestions too. On top of this, Matvey has excellent communication skills, and speaks fluent English.
Working with Matvey gave me the confidence to play my first OTB tournaments (and the skill to win some of them too!). I highly recommend Matvey as a coach to anyone who wants to improve their chess.

Matvey is coaching me for several months and improved my understanding of chess a lot, both the strategical goals as well as the dynamic perspective. We managed to build a solid opening repertoire, which I really enjoy playing. You immediately notice that he is a very experienced coach and also seriously invested in to the success of his students.

Matvey has been working with our son for a little over a month. He is 7 years old. They meet up 2 times a week. He has learned a lot of new openings. During this time, the level of his game has grown significantly. For the first time, he was able to beat his uncle, CM in chess.
Classes are interesting, the child looks forward to them. We are happy.

Matvey conducts classes with our 9-year-old son. We've been training together for 3 years 2 times a week. The lessons are interesting, the son is engaged with pleasure. The material is clearly explained. During the lessons, openings for both colors were clearly set. Our son has improved in the middlegame.
Now he easily finds plans on the way out of the opening, he has become noticeably stronger in the endgame. Homework is regularly assigned. Matvey is interested in the growth of his students, the results are excellent. His rating has gone up significantly, a year after the start of work, the son became the champion of the city and region at his age (U11 years old). During tournaments, a huge psychological support is provided! You can always agree on a convenient time for classes, a reasonable price for such a high level of lessons.
Matvey is a wonderful coach, we recommend him to everyone!

Matvey coaches our daughter, 12 years old. He is not only a coach, but also a wonderful psychologist. The most important achievement in half a year of classes is that if the daughter used to think between "giving up now or in a couple of weeks", then classes with Matvey solved such a problem :-)
The child studies with sincere interest and the thought of "quitting" has long sunk into oblivion. Mutual understanding is very important for a teenager. Matvey knows how to find an approach even to rebellious characters :-) The level of the game and, even more importantly, the level of attitude towards it, just in six months, have improved significantly, and others have noticed this. Matvey is an excellent trainer for both beginners and those who already have a certain level, since the presentation of the material varies depending on the nature of the child and the level of their game at the moment. Homework is within your power and with an eye to the future. I want to say a sincere THANK YOU to Matvey for his support during difficult tournaments, when they did not go the way we wanted. This is very important for the child - the ability of the coach to tactfully analyze their mistakes, so that the person themselves would benefit from them, and not lose passion. If you choose a coach - try a few lessons with Matvey, he is just an amazing coach.

I’ve been working with Matvey for over a year now, he’s a great coach! He helped me to become a titled player and win the world championship in my category.
His lessons are excellent and catered to me.
I feel welcome to send suggestions of things to go over, to show off nice games where I showcased what I learned from him, to send games where things haven’t gone my way and he can pinpoint areas to work on.
Matvey is the perfect coach for the serious student! Classes are interesting, the child looks forward to them. We are happy.

I work with Matvey and clearly feel progress. If half a year ago I had 500 points (chess.com rating), now I am up to 1100 points. Classes are interesting, there is both practice and theory. I am absolutely satisfied.
